Tallulah Bag's Velvet Dress

Featured in "T-Bag Strikes Again" and "T-Bag Bounces Back".

Overview

{short description of image}

This is the Mark III replica that I have made. Fortunately I had enough fabric left over from the last one to do it! Click here to see the Mark I and Mark II replicas.

Description: The original dress was around a size 12. It is made from wine and red polyester crushed velvets in identical colours to the original. The whole dress is one piece, rather than being a seperately constructed bodice and skirt like the Pearl dress. The bodice has princess seams running over the bust and up to the neckline. The A-line skirt has seven red godets in it which give it fullness and movement. The oversleeves are somewhere between being batwing and bell shaped. They are lined with gold tissue lame, with the undersleeves being made from red velvet as in the godets. The undersleeves taper to a point on the backs of the hands, and there is a loop at each point to slip over the middle finger to hold the point in place. The cuffs fasten by means of a metal popper. The dress fastens with a lapped zip at the back. The length of the dress is approximately 56" (142cm).

The Neckline and Armbands

The neckline trim and armbands are constructed in the same way. They consist of a layer of red fabric overlayed in gold metallic lace. This is bordered by lurex gold braided trim. Silver applique stars are applied at approx. 4" intervals. The bodice and sleeves are lined with standard lining fabric in red.

The Belt

The waistband of the belt is constructed in a similar fashion to the neckline and armbands, except that it is backed with gold metallic lame. Along the top edge of the waistband runs a string of gold faceted plastic beads (screen accurate). Two strings of the same bead trim run along the lower edge of the waistband also, only in this case, they hang in loops (28 beads per loop). The beaded trim runs along behind the centre streamer of the belt where it hangs in a longer loop. This central loop is screen accurate and took me yonks to spot! Where the bead strings meet the waistband, a lurex tassel is secured. The tassels are not screen accurate. The original had some type of pendant shaped like a gold loop.

The streamer overlays the waistband at the top. The star and lace band overlays a 4" wide metallic blue, red and black brocade band. This is not quite screen accurate, but it is the closest that I could find to the metallic blue and metallic red brocade used in the original. This brocade is bordered by gold metallic gimp braiding.
